PRIMARY RESEARCH RESULTS The results of this research indicate McCombs studentsââ¬â¢ knowledge and interest in social enterprise as a possible future career choice, whether or not they are aware of where or how to locate resources regarding social enterprise, and if they believe McCombs offers these types of resources. The research results presented below fall under the category of primary research. The primary research collected consisted of 217 survey responses and 12 in-person interviews. The participants were all McCombs students with several different majors. Around 48% of the participants were sophomores, and the remaining 52% were freshmen, juniors, and seniors. The large number of sophomores who participated in the survey is valuable information for Impact Hub Austin because McCombs sophomores are trying to pick a major and are looking towards their future, making them very impressionable. The surveys and interviews analyzed similar questions. However, the interviews allowed for a collection of more in depth responses, and allowed participants to answer the question of why they had particular perceptions. Knowledge The one of the first questions in the survey tested the knowledge of participants about social enterprise. About 59% of the 217 respondents said that they did not know what a social enterprise was. This question provides one of the reasons for why students do not go to work or volunteer for social enterprises. Although a majority of respondents claimedShow MoreRelatedImpacts of Information Technology on Individuals, Organizations and Societies21097 Words à |à 85 Pagestheaters, which may include the use of metal detectors and physical searches for recording devices, helps the film industry deter piracy at ââ¬Å"sneak previewsâ⬠and movie premieres (Ripley, 2004). Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay Free Essays
In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows what the true reality is. We will write a custom essay sample on Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now According to some researchers, ââ¬Å"A staple of Elizabethan and Shakespearean drama was dramatic ironyâ⬠(Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, ââ¬Å" One of the more prominent literary devices in the play is ironyâ⬠(Sauer 673). Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to the conflict that exists between the Capulets and the Montagues in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Dramatic irony in Romeo and Juliet occurs when Juliet and Romeo fall in love with each other at first sight, when Romeoââ¬â¢s friends donââ¬â¢t know that Romeo and Juliet have fallen in love with each other, and when Lady Capulet thinks that Juliet is crying about Paris, not Romeo. Romeo in the beginning of the play had been crying about how he could not get Rosaline, a Capulet. After all of the crying and weeping, Benvolio and Mercutio try to get Romeo to go to a party at the Capulet house. Romeo only agrees so that he might be able to catch a glimpse of Rosaline. When he goes to the party, rather than falling for Rosaline, he sees another beautiful girl that he instantly falls in love with. This girl is Juliet, the cousin of Rosaline, and she also falls in love with Romeo at first sight as well. Romeo and Juliet meet, they dance, but still do not know who each other are. Romeo before leaving the party asks the nurse who that girl (Juliet) is and she replies by saying that Juliet is the daughter of Lady Capulet. Romeo is taken away completely by this and says, ââ¬Å"O dear account! My life is my foeââ¬â¢s debtâ⬠(Romeo and Juliet 1. 5. 118). Juliet also asks the nurse and the nurse responds by saying that Romeo is a Montague, and like just like Romeo, she is also taken away. The dramatic irony of this is the fact that Romeoââ¬â¢s (Montague) and Juliet (Capulet) families are very high profile enemies to each other. The fact that they have fallen in love with each other is a very ironic, as now if they continue their love to one another, they are sure to face major problems down the line. After both Romeo and Juliet have fallen in love with each other, nobody in all of Verona and beyond knows about it, not a single person except Romeo and Juliet. Many people still believe that Romeo is still falling for Rosaline. In fact, at one point Mercutio exclaimed, ââ¬Å"Why that same pale hearted wench, that Rosaline torments him, so that he will sure run madâ⬠(Romeo and Juliet 2. 4. 4-5). Even until after their marriage, both Romeo and Juliet are pretty secretive about the love or the marriage, except for Juliet expressing her feeling to the nurse. Juliet only told the nurse because she loves the nurse and trusted her as well, and needed the help of the nurse to get married to Romeo. The first time that the majority of people would know about the marriage or love would be when Friar Lawrence would publicly announce it to Verona. The dramatic irony in all of this is the fact that after all of the major events (fights, family brawls, and the murder of Mercutio and Tybalt), no one knows that one of the Capulets is married to one of the Montagues. Something like this at the time period would be extremely unacceptable, and even in the time period would be ironic. After news of the murder of Tybalt and Mercutio is delivered to Juliet through the Nurse, Juliet is devastated. Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, and her first reaction to this is anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection to people, whatsoever. Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life, at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, ââ¬Å"Juliet feels that Romeo is no longer her lover, and she canââ¬â¢t have him againâ⬠(Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, ââ¬Å"Well, girl thou weepââ¬â¢st not so much for his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered himâ⬠(Romeo and Juliet 3. . 65-66). Juliet had just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasnââ¬â¢t crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. Dramatic irony was a driving method of keeping things fresh in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. One of the most prominent instances of dramatic irony in the play was when Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other, causing for great irony in the fact that they did not know. Another instance of dramatic irony is when nobody but Romeo and Juliet know about the love that they share, making great irony because a lot of events occur after their marriage. And finally another instance of dramatic irony is when Juliet tricks her mother into thinking that she is crying to Tybalt rather than Romeo. If in any of these examples, Romeo and Juliet were to know what was going to happen, there really would be no story. It was important that Shakespeare implemented dramatic irony into the play, as without it, the story would be quite plain and boring. How to cite Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay, Essays

Kurt cobain Essay Example For Students
Kurt cobain Essay Kurt CobainThe life of a rock star starts out with just a few lyrics scribbled on a piece of paper. With the added help of a good voice, sound, hard work, and determination, someone can become very successful in the competitive rock industry. Among the successful, hardworking artists in this industry are Little Richard, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and the Sex Pistols. Kurt Cobain also can be included with these rock legends. Kurt Cobains life in music is supported by great talent, hardship, and tragedy. Kurt Cobain was born on the 20th of Febuary 1967 in Abertine, Washington. When Kurt was only seven years old his mother and father divorced. Following the divorce, Kurt was moved between various family members and friends. As this constant moving got to be unbearable, he started to spend the nights sleeping below a bridge (immortalized in the song Something in the Way) at the end of his road. Here, Kurts time was spent writing his earliest lyrics(The Life). School life was not much easier on Kurt Cobain either. Unlike most boys, Kurt had little interest in such things as football and other sports. Instead, he enjoyed painting and Puhek 2singing. Therefore, much of his time at school was spent with the girls(Biography). For this, Kurt did not have many friends at school. Many thought he was either strange or bisexual, so he alienated himself from other people(The Life). Kurt Cobain was not always alone though. Before he was famous, Kurt lived with Tracy Merander (immortalized in the song About a Girl) for three years in Seattle. During this time, most of Kurts talents, such as painting and sculpting, were created for her. Tracy was said to be Kurts only true love(The Life). Then Kurt met Courtney Love, who quickly became an important part of Cobains life. They married 24 January 1992 in Wakiki, Hawaii. Six months later their daughter Frances Bean was born (Biography). Their relationship seemed to be great, but people who where much closer to them said the relationship was troublesome. It was obvious to them that Courtney was playing on his Kurts sensitvity (The Life). Another important aspect of Kurt Cobains life is his music. Kurt showed an interest in the arts at a very early age. He received his first guitar on his fourteenth birthday, and by the time he reachred fifteen, Kurt knew how to play. His musical influences were from bands like the Beatles and the Monkees to bands like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbeth, and AC/DC. Kurts music was a mixture of heavy metal and 80s punk. It would later be known as grunge. Puhek 3Kurt Cobains first band, which was not very successful, held the name Fecal Matter. With his friend Chris (Krist) Novaselic, Kurt formed the band Nirvana in 1986. In 1988 Kurt, Krist, and drummer Dave Grohl went to Seattle to make a demo at Reciprical Recording Studios. This demo later led to a record deal with Sub Pop records. On 11 June 1988 they released their first album Bleach, produced under the Sub Pop record label (DiPerna 74). After the release of their first album, Nirvana toured the United States. Eventually, they performed their first European concert in Newcastle. The next year Kurt Cobain and Nirvana decided to change record companies from Sub Pop to Geffen Records. In 1991 Nirvana signed a contract and started another album titled Nevermind (Biography). As Nirvana became more famous the stress increased on Kurt. Cobain was constantly being protected by guards, so he had little contact with his close friends and family. It even got to the point were they were unable to talk to Kurt on the phone. His music was the only thing that kept him from cracking under all the pressure of fame. This was slowly wearing away though (The Life). .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .postImageUrl , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:hover , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:visited , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:active { border:0!important; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:active , .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5 .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8ef7026ee377c6c362f06d01a46693b5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Never-Ending Dribble EssayIn 1993 Nirvana recorded In Utero, which was their last album recorded in studio. Because of the title of the song I Hate Myself and I Want to Die, later removed, it took six months to release this album. Puhek 4In the beginning of 1994 Nirvana played an MTV unpluged concert, and they played what was to be their final concert in Munich 29th Mars 1994. After Kurts death, Nirvana released their Unplugged in N.Y. album (Biography). The next aspect of Kurt Cobains life was his struggle with drugs. Kurt had become addicted to heroin and morphine. Cobain tried to get his friends and family to believe he was going to get some help and that his drug use was under control. This was not true, but with Nirvanas success many of Kurts lawyers, agents, and friends were scared to try to help him (Jones, Fleming, and Rossi 68). While at a seminar in July of 1993, Kurt overdosed on heroin. Courtney tried to save him by injecting him with some illegal drug. Later that day Kurt played at a concert without any problems (Biography). Then while touring, Kurt had an accidental overdose in Rome of March 1994. Just prior to that event, Cobain had entered a drug-rehabilitation program in California (OReilly 373). Kurt soon left, thinking he did not belong there (Biography). He went back to Seattle where he then shot himself (OReilly 373). Kurt Cobain was found dead on the morning of 8 April 1994(Biography), when an electrician came to install a security system in Kurts home. When no one answered the door, the electrician then tried to find someone by looking through the windows. What he found was a man lyiny on the floor (Handy 70). Puhek 5The police found Kurt on his back on the floor of his house. The guns position and the head trauma made it clear that the gun was fired upward into Cobains mouth (The Death). Also, lying on a nearby table was Kurts suicide note (Handy 70). The suicide note, written moments before Kurts death, portrays Kurts feelings moments before he pulled the trigger (The Death). In the note Kurt writes:Thank you all from the pit of my burning, nauseous stomach for your letters and concern during the past years. Im too much of an erratic, moody baby! I dont have the passion anymore, and so remember, its better to burn out than to fade away (qtd.in The Death). Though Kurt Cobain did not reach the age of thirty, he became known as a legend like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morris. All were twenty-seven when they died (Biography). On the announcement of Kurt Cobains death, the world sat in disbelief. For days the media reported on Kurts suicide. On the 9th of April 1994 CNN reported:The music world stood still today, in disbelief, as news of the horrific death of rock star Kurt Cobain ecod around the world. The 27 year old front man of the band Nirvana was discovered dead yesterday at his luxurious Seattle residence, after a self inflicted gun wound to the head. Cobains wife Courtney Love, who is Puhek 6currently in Paris, is said to be devistated at the news of her husbands death (qtd. in The Death). Kurts fans held a candlelight vigil to morn his death. Afterwards, a twenty-eight year old man shot himself in what appeared to be a copycat suicide. Cobains fans did not support the fact that Kurt commited suicide, but still supported him as a rock legend. Some spoke predictably of having lost their voice, their poet of disenfranchisement. There were a few fans who did not want to accept their idol twisted into a generational icon, a kind of hip destiny (Jones, Fleming, and Rossi 68). .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .postImageUrl , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:hover , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:visited , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:active { border:0!important; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:active , .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529 .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue6a4326b675f648f266e30a137f62529:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A Lesson Before Dying EssayThe president of Geffen Records spoke out to comfort Cobains supporters. If only someone had heard the rambling at Kurts home. Long before there was a void in our hearts, there was a void in Kurt Cobains (Giles et al. 67). To many of his fans Kurt was a hero. His music led him to be called the voice of a generation (OReilly 373). Kurt Cobain will never be forgotten. His music will always live on, and hopefully, others will learn from Kurts tragic end.
